Douglas B. Welmaker was born in Austin, raised in Houston, and has been practicing labor and employment law for 25 years, representing Defendants and Plaintiffs in both state and federal court. In the last 10 years, he has limited his practice to representing employees who have been wrongfully denied overtime pay in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act.

Mr. Welmaker graduated in the top 15% of his law school class at South Texas College of Law in Houston, where he was an Assistant Editor of the South Texas Law Review. He received an American Jurisprudence Award for the highest grade in his class for Torts I, was on the Dean’s List for 4 semesters, and was a member of the Order of the Lytae.

Mr. Welmaker is a member of the Southern, Northern and Eastern and Western Federal Districts of Texas, and is also licensed to practice before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.    

Prior to limiting his practice to overtime claims, Mr. Welmaker was involved in litigating traditional labor law as well as employment law matters for Fortune 500 clients, such as Kroger, Safeway, Spaw Glass, Dow Chemical, and McDonald’s. Additionally, he prepared and edited employee handbooks, policies and procedures and advised clients with respect to human resources issues, investigations, and management and avoidance of lawsuits.
